others:   introduced to wendy greetings exchanged…

wendy: unabashedly talking bollocks

others: silence…     …start entertaining conversation

wendy:   said something stupid

others: silence…                   …re-start entertaining conversation and oriented more to each other

wendy: being gawky

others:   continue entertaining conversation and orient more to each other

wendy: runs away

one wonderful muse on “pmt: heightened awareness or paranoia?”

ha ha ha very good it is re-assuring to know that there are people out there who share the same experience in social situations. Where do people find small talk?
    What does it look like?
    Is it worth anything?
    How do they manage it?
What on earth are they talking about?
How do they manage to keep polite conversation going so long?

(and other great mysteries of the world)…

Did you read Charlie Brooker’s fantastic piece about facebook?

“… As you might imagine, given my inability to relate to the rest of the human race on even the most cursory level, I’m somewhat socially inept. Slide me between two strangers at any light-hearted jamboree and I’ll either rock awkwardly and silently on my heels, or come out with a stone-cold conversation-killer like, “This room’s quite rectangular, isn’t it?” I glide through the social whirl with all the elegance of a dog in high heels….”
