Potato rock cakes

US people visiting UK fast food outlets may discover deep-fried potato rock-cakes that are served-up under the name of hash-browns.

I rather liked those things. Obviously they aren’t “hash browns” as we understand them in the US, but given enough salt and pepper they are quite tasty!

I believe a reasonably close US equivalent is the “Tater-tot”, found in the frozen food section, although the shape is entirely different.

The potato cakes at Arby’s look similar, same shape but made from shredded potatoes. The hash browns at McDonald’s are the same as Arby’s but somewhat thinner and oblong.
