weighted fridge doors

scribble tags:

Mumzie:  GWENDOLYN!  Remember to shut the fridge door after you’ve used the milk

Wendy:  ………

In the US my fridge door was weighted,  it fell shut automatically.  Slightly irritating when making a cup of tea at a leisurely pace.  Here in the UK my fridge door is not weighted.  If I forget to shut it the fridge tries to cool the whole kitchen.

Memories of mumzies wise words shiver around the room…

So is your name really Gwendolyn? That’s a lovely name! My fridge is the love of my life. I spent a decade coveting it. It is a cream 1950’s style ‘Smeg’ . . . it could pack up altogether . . . I would use it as a cupboard . . .
    Sx

I fell in love with a huge Smeg fridge (virtually a walk-in pantry with attached ice-maker) but had to let go of the dream when I worked out that the only way to get it into the kitchen was to knock out all the wall and remove the sink and the cooker. sigh…

Hmmmm… check the feet of your fridge. Usually the front two can be adjusted using a spanner, so that the fridge is actually leaning backwards. This usually causes the door to swing shut automatically (AFAIK it works like that in the States as well, but definitely here in Europe).
