plucky celebrity covers up her assets
Sharleen Spiteri is a beautiful woman. Conceptions of female beauty have changed dramatically since the 1990s. Few mainstream female pop-stars nowadays would have the imagination and pluck to dress in a way that doesn’t emphasize her sexuality.

I agree, this woman presents herself with style and beauty, but also seems like a real person and not a sexualized creation of the music industry. I have to give some credit to Janelle Monae, as well. She’s had her lapses, for sure, but in general she chooses to present herself in a very interesting way without focusing on her anatomy.

It is very nice to see a woman who concentrates more on the performance instead of what she isn’t wearing. The Britney Spears and Christina Aguilera’s of the world have no talent hence why they show off so much.
Thank You for posting this, Wendy.

The music industry too has changed since the 1990s. Some music seems to be created with a different purpose in mind, and a concert is more about being a giant production than about the music itself. (At the Super Bowl just now the Black Eyed Peas and Usher performed, and it was about a giant elaborate show more than the music itself; in contrast, a few years back the halftime show featured Paul McCartney just singing songs.)
I especially enjoy something like this where the performer comes across as a real person. One feels a sort of connection that’s lacking in the showy stuff.

Brian – the ‘connection’ thing makes so much sense. It works for me diversely with Patti Smith and Annie Lennox
