ouch
what did you do to your arm?
broke it
How did you do that?
fell off a bike and landed on the curb
Does it hurt?
Yes
I think she was trying to make conversation. I totally failed to help out. Her assumption that blamed me - ‘how did you do that?‘, rather than unplaced blame ‘how did that happen?’ , for the break coupled with no obvious empathy made it was easy to forget to be generous to this stranger

Maybe she was looking for tips?

Hey Wendy! Yeah, I thought the same as Scarlet. “I want some time off work. How can I do that? And will I be uncomfortable if I do?” My mind is a strange place. Indigo x

Scarlet, Indigo, (rainbow?) ah! I could have been so much more helpful by letting her know about the statutary sick pay pawltry amount too – must remember to assume people are cunning…

When my son was ten years old, he simply fell down in the yard and broke his arm. He got tired of people asking “How did you do that”, and having such a boring answer, so he started tellling folks that he broke it while skydiving, swordfighting with a gorilla!
He’s 23 years old now but he is still funny. (And hey, I might have told you this before, but I am old and I can’t remember.)

Kay, what a wise son you’ve raised! It’s made me realise I should get a few good cover stories for the scar which will last longer than the break….
