apply a mechanical clock

Friday, May 18th, 2012 | tags: , , ,  |

Mechanical clocks should be available on the NHS because of their outstanding health problem diagnostic qualities. No home should be without at least one.

Grandma's ClockMechanical clocks that strike and chime have been blamed for causing some people sleep disruption. This diagnosis is actually an  “Urban Legend“. In pre-urban venacular it’s:

Pish, tush and nonsense

A chiming or striking clock is actually an early warning system for potentially dangerous health problems.  These clocks will only disrupt sleep when one or more of the following pre-conditions applies – the person presenting the  clock-disrupted sleep symptoms is:

  1. not actually tired (sedentry lifestyle)
  2. profoundly troubled by something else (Freudian displacement theory)
  3. change intolerant (lacking awareness of Habituation theory)

The clock has actually uncovered the easily treatable conditions that are presenting as sleep disruption.  Treatments are

  1. exercise until your body is tired
  2. friends –  to help find out what’s troubling you, and explore possible solutions. If this isn’t possible the NHS does provide counsellors, clinical psychologists and psychiatrists but you’ll probably have to wait until the problem blows beyond the clock-stops-sleep symptoms before you can acess these professional services
  3. patience – it takes time for people habituate to new environments, new sounds

This consultation was provided free of charge by Dr Wendy

Masa creed

Saladin Citadel MosqueEgyptian guide (EG):   Saladin did one terrible thing which we cannot forget.   He masa creed 400 dinner guests

Wendy:   Killed 400 dinner guests?

EG:   yes

Wendy: I think you mean massacred not masa creed

EG:   the Americans say Masa creed

I  decided not to contradict her assertion of  how Americans pronounce ‘massacred’.  My role was only to ask questions, follow instructions  and make impressed noises.   For example,   she was the  director of where and when I could take photographs insisting that her prescribed locations were best.    She argued with me  if I chose not to  comply with her suggestions.    She told me to hurry up and move on when I decided to take photographs outside of her prescribed opportunities.

Luckily I’ve escaped from her clutches  to my friends home. My friend  knows  how to

  • ‘not know’
  • acknowledge her own linguistic and meaningful creativity
  • allow her guests to make thier own judgements (about where to take photographs)

Well out of order

Wednesday, August 17th, 2005 | tags: ,  |
While comparing ‘Dentist’ stories with a Canadian colleague I menitoned that a Dentist working for the UK "National Health Service’ had ‘told me off’ for
  1. causing a filling he’d placed 3 weeks earlier to fall out after only 2 days because I obviously hadn’t ‘bitten down’ properly on it during the original placement.
  2. crying when he subsequently gave me an injection to numb my mouth to replace the filling I’d recklessly dislodged.   It hurt.   I couldnt help the tears.
I told her that I felt the Dentists’ manner was
‘well out of order’
She  couldn’t supress her laughter…   ..then muttered an attempted imitation of the phrase in an English accent…     …I’ve found another insensitivity criminal!
